Taraba State University Issues Advisory Ahead of Jukun-Kona Traditional Festival

The Student Affairs Division of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has issued a formal security and cultural advisory to all students regarding the upcoming annual traditional ritual festival of the Jukun-Kona of the Kofai Community (ATC).

In a notice dated March 4, 2026, signed by the Student Affairs Officer, Nuvalga Kelvin Hosea, the university informed the student body that the cultural event is scheduled to take place from Thursday, March 5th to Saturday, March 7th, 2026.

Restricted Participation and Safety Directives

The university emphasized that the ritual festival is a private cultural observance strictly for Jukun-Kona-speaking people. Consequently, the following directives have been issued to maintain order and respect local traditions:

All students who do not belong to the Jukun-Kona ethnic group are strongly advised to stay away from the ritual sites during the three-day period.

The administration warned that any student who violates this directive or interferes with the proceedings will be held personally responsible for their actions.

The advisory is part of the university’s proactive measures to ensure the safety of its students while respecting the cultural heritage and traditional rites of its host communities. Students are encouraged to go about their normal academic activities while avoiding the designated festival areas in the Kofai Community (ATC).
