Taraba State University Student Overcomes Substance Addiction via NDLEA Partnership

A 25-year-old 200-level student of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has successfully overcome drug addiction following a comprehensive rehabilitation programme facilitated through the collaborative efforts of the university's Directorate of Narcotic, medical professionals, family members, and relevant drug control agencies.

According to the Directorate of Narcotic the student was identified as struggling with substance abuse and subsequently underwent a drug integrity test to determine the substances involved. Following the assessment, he was referred to the NDLEA Rehabilitation Centre in Yola, Adamawa State, where he received specialized treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation services.

The rehabilitation process combined medical care, psychological support, counseling, and family involvement, all of which contributed significantly to the student's recovery and successful reintegration into academic life.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Narcotic Mr. Jeremiah S. Adamu, described the student's recovery as a testament to the effectiveness of early intervention and structured rehabilitation programmes.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, for his unwavering commitment to combating drug abuse and fostering a drug-free campus environment.

"Under the leadership of Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, the university has continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at preventing drug abuse and supporting affected students through rehabilitation and recovery," Adamu stated.

He further emphasized that the university remains committed to strengthening awareness campaigns, preventive measures, and rehabilitation initiatives to protect students from the dangers of substance abuse.

The successful rehabilitation of the student serves as a beacon of hope for others battling addiction, demonstrating that recovery is possible through professional treatment, family support, and institutional commitment.

University authorities reiterated their determination to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment while encouraging students facing substance abuse challenges to seek help through the appropriate channels.
