TASFUED Vice-Chancellor Inaugurates Four Strategic Committees to Strengthen Governance and Accountability

The Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo, has inaugurated four strategic committees to strengthen institutional governance, promote ethical standards, improve research quality and enhance the university's environment.

The Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo, has inaugurated four strategic committees to strengthen institutional governance, promote ethical standards, improve research quality and enhance the university's environment.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by principal officers of the university, marked the formal commencement of the committees' responsibilities in advancing the institution's development agenda.

The newly inaugurated committees are:

  • Environmental Monitoring Committee.
  • Research and Ethics Committee.
  • University General Editorial Board.
  • SERVICOM/Code of Conduct Committee.

Speaking during the inauguration, Professor Oladipo said the exercise was intended to give committee members a clear understanding of their responsibilities beyond their appointment letters.

He noted that effective committee work requires accountability, a thorough understanding of institutional expectations and a commitment to excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor said the Environmental Monitoring Committee is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing campus environment. He directed members to carry out regular inspections of university facilities, monitor the activities of contractors and personnel, and promptly report deficiencies requiring management intervention.

He warned that the university would no longer tolerate negligence or poor performance by contractors and staff responsible for environmental maintenance, adding that visible improvements to the campus environment must be achieved within a short period.

On the Research and Ethics Committee, Professor Oladipo described research integrity as essential to institutional credibility and access to external research grants. He charged members to rigorously evaluate research proposals involving human participants, animals, biological materials and sensitive data in line with ethical guidelines and international best practices.

He also reminded the committee that approvals granted carry significant responsibility and urged members to ensure that all decisions remain objective, transparent and free from favouritism.

Addressing the University General Editorial Board, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of building a reputable university journal capable of attracting high-quality scholarly contributions from within and outside the institution.

He tasked the board with:

  • Developing robust editorial policies.
  • Ensuring rigorous peer-review processes.
  • Establishing a strong online presence for the university journal.
  • Managing available resources efficiently.

According to him, a well-managed journal would significantly improve the university's academic visibility, research impact and global reputation.

Professor Oladipo also charged members of the SERVICOM/Code of Conduct Committee to uphold ethical standards and institutional values. He said the committee must ensure compliance with university regulations, investigate reported violations fairly and promote transparency across all university operations.

He warned against concealing misconduct and emphasised that integrity must remain a defining characteristic of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor further reaffirmed his administration's commitment to infrastructure development through strategic partnerships and donor support.

He disclosed that efforts are ongoing to secure funding and collaborations for several projects, including:

  • Road rehabilitation.
  • Perimeter fencing.
  • Improvement of power supply.
  • Construction of an ultra-modern university library.

Professor Oladipo urged members of the committees to work collaboratively, embrace innovation and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility in carrying out their assignments. He also directed them to convene their inaugural meetings without delay and begin implementing their respective mandates.

He reaffirmed the university management's commitment to transparency in research approvals, staff promotions and institutional decision-making, stressing that merit, diligence and adherence to established standards would continue to guide the affairs of the university.
