Tazkiyah University, Nigeria’s First All-Female Institution, Commences Academic Activities in Zaria

Tazkiyah University, the first female-only university in Nigeria, officially commenced lectures today, Thursday, January 22, 2026. The institution, founded by the renowned scholar Professor Ibrahim Maqari, recorded an impressive initial enrollment of 250 students for its inaugural academic session. 

In a significant gesture of support for female education, Professor Maqari personally sponsored 50 students, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder access to the university’s specialized academic programs.

Located in Zaria, Kaduna State, Tazkiyah University was established to provide a safe, values-driven, and culturally sensitive environment tailored specifically for women. The institution's mission focuses on empowering women through high-level academic knowledge and professional skills, aiming to bridge the gender gap in higher education and contribute to broader societal progress.

The commencement of lectures marks a historic milestone in the Nigerian educational landscape, as Tazkiyah University becomes the first institution of its kind to offer an exclusive learning space for women, modeled after similar successful international models of single-sex higher education.
