Team of Young Female Secondary School App Developers to Represent Nigeria at World Tech Summit in USA
A team of four JSS2 students from Jacobs Well High School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been chosen to represent Nigeria at the prestigious World Technovision Girls Challenge in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
A team of four JSS2 students from Jacobs Well High School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been chosen to represent Nigeria at the prestigious World Technovision Girls Challenge in Silicon Valley, California, USA.

The students, Oghenemaro Tejiri (12), Salome Akhabhau (11), Excel Barile-Nwika (11), and Goodness Nwonanne-Chima (12), secured a spot in the finals with their innovative android application, AgriConnect.
AgriConnect, which connects farmers, landowners, and seedling sellers, was developed under the mentorship of the school's tech consultant, Mr. Somkenechukwu Mamah. The app was among 3,200 entries from 11,000 girls across 69 countries, including the USA, UK, Japan, China, Canada, and Spain. After a rigorous assessment process, AgriConnect was selected as one of the top 15 finalists.
The school's coordinator and proprietor, Mrs. Egondu Jacob, expressed her pride and optimism, stating:
"We are optimistic that greater achievements are on the way and Nigeria and Africa would be made proud through the achievements of our students."
She also noted:
"It is a very great news that the students are putting Rivers State, the Niger Delta and Nigeria on the list of nations of the world whose students are outstanding in apps developments at a very young age."

The Technovision Girls competition aims to empower young girls aged 8-18 to leverage technology to address pressing issues in their communities. The finals will take place on October 15 and 19, 2024, in Silicon Valley, California."
