Educational facilities and infrastructure, with a total value of N4.5 billion, have been officially inaugurated at Gombe State University (GSU) through the efforts of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

During the inauguration ceremony, Architect Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, highlighted that GSU had been a beneficiary of TETFund interventions since its establishment in 2004, starting from 2006. He emphasized that over the years, TETFund had allocated more than N15 billion to GSU for a range of development projects. Echono commended the university's efficient utilization of these resources to create essential facilities that have become prominent features on the campus.

Echono stated, "Without a doubt, projects funded through these initiatives have significantly enhanced the university's mission of promoting teaching, learning, and research." He also praised the university's management for their diligent oversight and successful execution of various intervention projects, including the 11 projects being commissioned that day. These projects were part of high-impact, special, annual, and zonal interventions, spanning from 2014 to 2021 and successfully completed between 2021 and 2023. The total cost of these projects amounted to N4,591,813,389.70, all executed in accordance with TETFund guidelines.

In response, Professor Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty, the Vice Chancellor of the University, expressed gratitude to TETFUND for its continuous support, acknowledging its significant contribution to the institution's growth.

The State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who presided over the project commissioning alongside the Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Alkali, and other distinguished Federal and State Government officials, commended TETFUND for its financial assistance in constructing vital structures for the institution. He also praised the university's management for their prudent use of these funds.

Governor Yahaya further disclosed plans to establish an additional campus for the university in Dukku local government, which will house the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, thus expanding the institution's reach and academic offerings.

The newly commissioned structures encompass facilities within the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, Faculty of Law, a 250-capacity drama theatre, the university clinic, and female hostels III and IV, among others.
