Tinubu Approves ₦10 Billion Take-Off Grant for Federal University of Education Pankshin

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion take-off grant for the newly upgraded Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) in Plateau State. The grant will be released through Tetfund for immediate use.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion take-off grant for the newly upgraded Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) in Plateau State. The university, previously known as the Federal College of Education Pankshin (FCE Pankshin), was officially unveiled following the National Universities Commission's (NUC) spot assessment of the institution.

Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, disclosed the approval during the university's unveiling. Gagdi, who sponsored the bill for the institution’s upgrade, expressed his fulfillment, noting that the bill was initially approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, its implementation was delayed due to administrative hurdles.

Gagdi said, “Buhari approved the bill overriding the Ministry of Education to commence immediately, but it became a big problem, giving room for some people on social media to criticize me. Today, I am exonerated.”

The lawmaker further explained that the ₦10 billion grant, approved by President Tinubu, will ensure the smooth take-off of the university. The funds will be released through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) for immediate use.

Additionally, Gagdi revealed that the Federal Government has approved recruitment slots for 161 staff members to address personnel needs at the new university. He handed over the recruitment approval to the Chairman of the University's Governing Board.
