A shocking incident has unfolded at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State, where a female student has been arrested by the school authority for allegedly murdering her newborn baby in the school hostel.

The student reportedly gave birth in a hostel toilet on Monday, June 10, before she allegedly threw her baby from the top floor of a three-storey building.

Social media has since been flooded with a viral video showing the tragic scene. The video depicts the body of the newborn lying on the concrete where it landed, while two students are seen attempting to wrap the baby and the discarded placenta in a towel.

Another video that surfaced on social media revealed the 200-level student who allegedly committed the act being led away by school authorities.

The school’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Bello, confirmed the incident on Monday. “The university administration is conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary measures to address the situation,” Bello stated. He assured all that the university promptly notified the authorities about the incident.

Bello also clarified that the student’s pregnancy did not occur during her time at the university, pointing out that the academic session had just resumed.

He confirmed that immediate medical attention was provided to the student following the incident. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond
