Nasarawa Poly: Abducted Student's Mother Appeals to Government for Daughter's Rescue

The mother of a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, who was kidnapped along with 29 others during a journey on the Abuja-Nasarawa Highway, pleaded for the Federal Government’s assistance in saving her child. She expressed shock when she learned about her daughter’s abduction on Monday. She emphasized that the incident had left her in a state of despair, particularly because there had been no communication from the kidnappers.

The mother of a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, who was kidnapped along with 29 others during a journey on the Abuja-Nasarawa Highway, pleaded for the Federal Government’s assistance in saving her child.

On Monday, My Schoolnews reported that approximately 30 travelers, including students from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, were kidnapped on the Abuja-Nasarawa Highway on Friday.

An anonymous source, due to the sensitive nature of the incident, revealed on Sunday that the kidnappers ambushed the vehicles carrying the travelers and took them into a nearby bush in the Uke area of Nasarawa State. The source further mentioned that one of the kidnapped students was on her way to her family in Abuja.

A bus driver, who reportedly managed to evade the attack, alerted the local police about the incident.

However, the mother of the kidnapped student, who identified herself as Madam Stock, expressed shock when she learned about her daughter’s abduction on Monday. She emphasized that the incident had left her in a state of despair, particularly because there had been no communication from the kidnappers.

In her words, “We spoke on Thursday, and she told me there is an ongoing strike in her school. I sent her N5,000 as transport fare to come back home only for me to receive the news of her abduction.

“I have only been hearing about kidnapping in the news, but I never thought someone close to me would be a victim. I am appealing to the authorities to help me rescue my daughter.

“I am scared because her brother who visited the police station gathered that the abductors had reached out to some relatives, but they have yet to reach out to us. The government should help me.”

The student’s brother, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of retaliation from the kidnappers, confirmed that the family had not received any demands or communication from the kidnappers. He expressed that the family has been in distress since the incident occurred.

He stated, “We have yet to receive any call or message from them to know what they want. When I visited the police station, I gathered that some families of other persons who were abducted have been contacted and asked to pay N10m for each individual.

“The incident has put the family in distress, and we hope that the authorities will do something quickly to rescue the abducted persons. We are urging the police and the Federal Government to help us rescue our relatives unhurt.”
