University of Maiduguri Hosts Honourable Minister of Regional Development and NEDC Delegation

On Monday, February 17, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a high-profile delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Regional Development, His Excellency Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Goni Alkali.

 

The minister's visit was aimed at inspecting the Centre for the Study of Violent Extremism, a state-of-the-art facility built and donated to the University by the NEDC. The centre is designed to serve as a hub for research and studies on violent extremism, contributing to the region's efforts to address this critical challenge.

Professor Mele, who has been leading the University of Maiduguri since his appointment as substantive Vice-Chancellor in September 2024 ¹, welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the NEDC's support in establishing the centre.
