In a historic achievement, 17-year-old Nina Mitchell has shattered records at DeKalb High School in Illinois, United States, becoming the first-ever black female to secure the prestigious best graduating award with an extraordinary 4.549 GPA.
Nina's groundbreaking accomplishment has not only earned her academic acclaim but also positions her as a role model for aspiring young black and female students. Expressing her pride, Nina stated, "I am representing Black students and female students. They can look up to me and say, ‘Wow. Nina did it, so I can do it.’ That was really important for me."

Nina's achievements are not isolated; they run in the family. Her 75-year-old grandmother, Pearlene Carter, was the valedictorian of Walker High School’s class of 1959 in Coldwater, Mississippi. Describing her grandmother as an inspiration and role model, Nina highlighted the unwavering support she received.

Acknowledging the significance of Nina's achievements, her father, Darren Mitchell, expressed pride not only in her academic accomplishments but also in her character. He emphasized Nina's kindness, respect for others, and her compassionate nature.
Accepted to prestigious institutions including Harvard University, Stanford, Northwestern, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she will pursue a business major, Nina aspires to become a lawyer. Her journey exemplifies determination, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence.
