Two graduates of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, have been honoured with the prestigious NYSC Presidential Honours Award by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their outstanding service during the one-year national service.

Two graduates of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, have been honoured with the prestigious NYSC Presidential Honours Award by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their outstanding service during the one-year national service.

The awardees, Miss Okeke Nwakaego Maria of the Mass Communication Department and Mr. Ikwor Chinedu Chima of the Microbiology Department, received the recognition at the combined President’s NYSC Honours Award ceremony held on July 29, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

A total of 210 former corps members were honoured at the event, which was attended by top government officials, NYSC leadership, dignitaries, and family members of the awardees.

In his welcome address, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), commended the honourees for their remarkable contributions and reiterated the vital role of corps members in promoting national unity and development.

Delivering the President’s message, Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, congratulated the recipients on behalf of President Tinubu and expressed appreciation for their dedication and selfless service. She noted that the Federal Government remains committed to empowering Nigerian youths and creating platforms that will allow their talents to thrive.

The President also announced automatic employment into the Federal Civil Service for all awardees, cash rewards of ₦250,000 each, and scholarship opportunities up to the Ph.D. level.

Miss Okeke Nwakaego Maria, who served at the Kebbi Television Service in Kebbi State, and Mr. Ikwor Chinedu Chima, who served at Ansural Islam Secondary School, Baruten LGA, Kwara State, described the award as both an honour and an encouragement to continue serving the nation with diligence.

Their recognition is a source of pride not only to their families but also to the Federal Polytechnic Oko community. The institution applauded their resilience, excellence, and creativity—qualities for which the Polytechnic is widely known.
