The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr Ganiyu O. Saliu, FNIM, FCIML, fspsp, JP, has emphasized the importance of encouraging young professionals and students to join professional bodies early in their careers.
He made this point while receiving a delegation from the Local Organising Committee of the Oluyole 2026 Zonal Management Summit of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) (Chartered).
Mr Saliu credited much of his own professional success to early registration with the Institute, noting that NIM serves as both a training platform and a network for professional connections. He urged students and early-career officers in management programs to take advantage of such opportunities, highlighting that the principles of management are foundational across all sectors and disciplines.
He further explained that the administrative culture at the University of Ibadan reflects the values promoted by NIM, which he described as central to sustaining the university’s legacy as a leading institution in Nigeria. He encouraged collaborations between NIM and relevant academic units at the university to extend the institute’s influence and professional ethos among students.
Mr Saliu, a Fellow of NIM, pledged his support for the success of the Oluyole 2026 South-West Zonal Management Summit, viewing it as a strategic platform for advancing professional management practices across the region.
Dr Ibijoke Oluremi Fasola, FNIM, Chairperson of the Summit’s Local Organising Committee, highlighted the Graduate Membership Scheme as a key initiative to introduce young scholars to the ethics and discipline of professional management early in their careers. She emphasized that the visit sought to strengthen institutional collaboration between NIM and the University of Ibadan, as well as secure support for the upcoming regional summit.
The discussion underscores the role of early professional affiliation in shaping competent, ethically grounded, and networked professionals in Nigeria’s workforce.
