The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, has been appointed a Justice of Peace (JP) by the Oyo State Government, a development that has attracted commendations from the university community and professional bodies.

The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, has been appointed a Justice of Peace (JP) by the Oyo State Government, a development that has attracted commendations from the university community and professional bodies.

Congratulatory messages have continued to pour in from the University Management, staff and students following the announcement of the appointment. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, described the recognition as well deserved, noting that the Registrar had consistently demonstrated strong leadership qualities and an unwavering commitment to service, thereby projecting the image of the university positively.

The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), in a congratulatory letter signed by its Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr. Taiwo Ganiyat Olusesi, stated that the appointment reflected Mr. Saliu’s exemplary leadership, professional competence and dedication to service. The institute further described him as a Fellow who has maintained excellence and integrity in professional and management practice, expressing confidence that his experience and proven track record would contribute meaningfully to his new responsibility.

A Justice of Peace is a local judicial officer, often a respected member of the community rather than a qualified lawyer, appointed to handle minor civil and criminal matters within courts of limited jurisdiction. Appointees are typically individuals recognised for integrity, sound judgment and community service.

Reacting to the appointment, Mr. Saliu expressed appreciation to the state government, stating that he was honoured to be considered worthy of the recognition.

Two other staff members of the university also received similar appointments. They are Professor Sunday Akinlolu Fagbemi of the Faculty of Law and Mr. Olukunle Anthony Adedeji of the Safety Unit, who were likewise named Justices of Peace by the Oyo State Government.
