UNIABUJA PRESS RELEASE ON REPORT LECTURER READS;
MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR ON HOW STUDENTS CAN REPORT THEIR LECTURERS' ATTENDANCE OF CLASSES
Dear University Community,
The University of Abuja has decided to score another first in the Nigeria University System as a University that empowers its students to report on the regular attendance of their lecturers in class. At every lecture, students are now empowered to report from their Portal whether the lecturer is present or not. This report goes directly to the Vice-Chancellor, and is also accessed by the Dean of Faculty. This becomes a permanent record of class attendance by every lecturer in the University, and usable by the University Management and Council on personnel decisions regarding the lecturer concerned. As students and staff know, it is mandatory for every lecturer to personally attend and teach every class of the course assigned to him or her during the academic semester. Even when a guest lecturer is rarely invited to class with the approval of the HOD, the assigned instructor of record and lecturer of the course MUST be present. During ocassions where a lecturer has the Vice Chancellor's written permission to attend a conference, it is mandatory for the lecturer to make alternative arrangements to cover the class during his or her absence. The student Must be informed of such arrangement well ahead of the absence.
From today and forever for the great UofA of Nigeria students are empowered to report on class attendance by their lecturers. The Student Union Government as well as every student are encouraged to monitor the active utilisation of this opportunity by students. The University of Abuja has come to top the Nigerian Universities where frequent and prompt attendance of classes by staff and students is strictly monitored.
So, my dear students, go to your portal during but preferably after every class and report on whether or not your lecturer has attended. The confidentiality of every student is protected. Only the Vice Chancellor is empowered to trace and identify students whenever he needs to ask them further questions. No student identity will be revealed to any staff of the University. And the implementation of this policy starts immediately!
