UNIABUJA to Celebrate 37th Anniversary in 2025
As the University of Abuja prepares to celebrate its 37th anniversary on January 1, 2025, it reflects on its journey from humble beginnings to becoming a prominent institution with 16 faculties.

The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) is set to celebrate its 37th anniversary on January 1, 2025. Established in 1988, the university initially operated from an improvised location in Wuse, Abuja, for two years before moving to its current Mini Campus in Gwagwalada, where academic activities officially began in 1991.
Since its inception, the university has witnessed remarkable growth. Starting with just four faculties in 1991, the UofA now boasts 16 faculties, the majority of which are located on the Main Campus along Airport Road. The faculties include Arts, Agriculture, Education, Engineering, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Communication, Nursing, Environmental Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Clinical Sciences.
As the only public university in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the University of Abuja is rapidly evolving and is poised to transform into a world-class institution. This anniversary serves as a reminder of the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in shaping the future of higher education in Nigeria.
