UNICAL Faculty Of Educational Foundation Studies Extols UNICROSS Vice Chancellor
A staff delegation from the Faculty of Educational Foundation Studies, University of Calabar (UNICAL), led by the Dean, Prof. (Mrs.) Anthonia Inaja, has extolled the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, during a courtesy visit to her office.
Speaking at the visit, Prof. Inaja said the purpose was to congratulate Prof. Bassey, “one of their own,” on her substantive appointment as Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS. She described the feat as a source of immense pride to the Faculty, commending Prof. Bassey’s remarkable achievements and contributions to academia.

The delegation’s Secretary, Dr. Wokosor E. Ofem, informed the Vice Chancellor that the team, which also served as a committee, was constituted to plan the send-forth of esteemed retirees who had worked under Prof. Inaja’s deanship. He explained that they came not only to specially invite Prof. Bassey to the event but also to solicit her support.
Corroborating the Dean’s remarks, Dr. Ofem and other members of the delegation lauded the UNICROSS Vice Chancellor’s exceptional contributions to the Faculty and to UNICAL at large. Ofem, speaking on behalf of the team, described Prof. Bassey as “a workaholic,” “an Ambassador of the Faculty,” and “a friend and mother figure.”
He recalled that her appointment as Vice Chancellor coincided with her Post-Doctoral Diploma studies in Education Management, a situation that initially caused concern among colleagues. However, she not only completed the programme successfully but also bagged the Diploma, a testament to her zeal, discipline, and resilience. “Your appointment is an accomplishment of hard work and dedication to academic scholarship,” he emphasized.
Responding, Prof. Bassey expressed gratitude for the recognition and support from her colleagues. She highlighted the importance of the Faculty’s foundational setting, which, she said, paved the way for her success. She also acknowledged her senior colleagues and mentors, crediting them with instilling in her the values of hard work, humility, and resilience.
“The visit is a gesture of goodwill, reinforcing a strong bond between the Faculty and its staff, and showcasing the University’s support for its alumni in their professional endeavors,” Prof. Bassey said. She assured the delegation of her attendance at the retirees’ send-forth in September 2025.
The highpoint of the visit was the signing of the visitors’ book and a group photograph session.
