UNICAL: We Are Ready to Collaborate With Delaware State University (DSU) on Food Insecurity - FoA Dean
The Dean of, the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Susan Ohen has stated the Institution's readiness to collaborate with Delaware State University (DSU) to curb food insecurity in the Nation.

Prof. Susan Ohen stated this during an interactive session on International Collaborative Research on Food Security between the University of Calabar and a team from Delaware State University held at the Department of Animal Science Laboratory, Unical recently.
Represented by a one-time Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ausaji A. Ayuk, Prof. Ohen welcomed the team to the Institution and thanked them for choosing the University of Calabar for such a noble endeavour.
She said collaborating with the Faculty of Agriculture will not only improve and enhance food production in the state but also the world at large, even as she underscored the benefits of the project to the students who will participate in it.
The Dean commended the team for their efforts and used the opportunity to urge the would-be participating students to maximize the advantages therein by ensuring that they come out with good compost manure that will increase the production of quality and healthy food.
Also speaking, a member of the faculty, Prof. Ukwapu C. Udiandeye noted that the collaboration is of utmost importance to the faculty and the institution, because of the immense benefits accruable.
Prof. Udiandeye while acknowledging that the project is targeting providing food security which is the major problem of the Nation, said it will be a great honour to see Nigeria producing the quantity and quality of food that will serve the world at large.
In an earlier remark, the Delaware State University team leader, Dr Samuel Bessong said the project was approved to help curb food insecurity in the world, especially, Africa.
Dr. Bessong pointed out that the project which is for one year will commence in August and will focus on the production of locally-made manure, adding that, some students will be saddled with the task of producing this manure.
He said the food that will be produced will have all the nutrients the body needs.
Hear him; "We are what we are because of what we eat. Because if the body is not properly taken care of, it will get sick".
Dr. Bessong further disclosed that some crops have good nutrients because of the soil the crops were planted on, adding that, food insecurity is not all about the quantity of food, but the quality of the food as well. He said his team were the University to research how to produce quality food with locally made manure.
The DSU team lead said they will be working with farmers, scientists and students by organizing workshops to listen to communities so that they can know the issues peculiar to them and thus, proffer solutions to make the society much better than it is
