UNIJOS Orders Immediate Hostel Evacuation Amid Escalating Unrest

Following a wave of deadly violence in Jos, the management of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has ordered the immediate evacuation of all students from its hostels. The directive, issued on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, follows "near chaotic scenarios" near the campus that have severely threatened student safety.

The evacuation process is being coordinated with the Plateau State Government, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang providing dedicated transport services authorized to operate even during restricted hours.

Local Students whose parents or guardians reside within Jos and its environs were directed to vacate the hostels starting from 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1.

Non-Resident Students: Those from outside Plateau State are scheduled for evacuation beginning at 8:00 AM on Thursday, April 2.

The security situation in Jos North escalated significantly following a "Palm Sunday massacre" on March 29, which left at least 28 people dead in the Anguwan Rukuba community. While the state government initially imposed a 48-hour curfew, fresh sporadic violence erupted shortly after the curfew was relaxed on Wednesday morning, triggering widespread panic and the closure of business activities.
