The Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has acknowledged the concerns raised by students following the decision of the university’s Senate to extend the 2024/2025 academic session. In a statement issued by SUG President Ekojah Gideon Sage, the union expressed empathy for the frustrations students are experiencing due to the extension.

SUG clarified that the decision to extend the academic session was made by the University Senate, citing unavoidable delays that disrupted the smooth running of the session. The union emphasized that it has no authority to influence the resumption or conclusion of academic activities, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Senate.

In the statement, the SUG urged students to remain calm and patient, reaffirming its commitment to advocating for student welfare within its mandate. The union also expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of the student body during this challenging period.
