Professor Tanko Ishaya of UNIJOS has been appointed Alternate Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors, reflecting his leadership in higher education.
Professor Tanko Ishaya, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), has been appointed as the Alternate Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities. His appointment, effective from November 1, 2024, signifies a milestone in his career and underscores his commitment to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria.
The appointment was formally conveyed by Professor Yakubu A. Ochefu, Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU). In his new role, Professor Ishaya will work closely with the substantive Chairman, Professor Sagir Abbas, Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, to guide the committee’s strategic engagements. This role places him at the forefront of collaborative efforts to enhance the Nigerian academic landscape.
Professor Ishaya joins a newly structured CVCNU Executive Board alongside prominent colleagues, including Professor Lawrence Ezemonye as Chairman representing private universities, Professor Kabiru Adeyemo as an alternate chairman, and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as Chairman representing state universities. This distinguished board will serve as a guiding force in promoting growth and unity among Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
