The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is on a mission to become Africa’s most subscribed university. Spearheading this initiative is Prof. Abraham Osinubi, Director of UNILAG’s Postgraduate School, who is committed to enhancing the institution’s research capabilities and nurturing the next generation of thought leaders.

Prof. Osinubi highlights the vital role of the Postgraduate School in UNILAG’s academic framework. Responsible for over 900 programs across more than 100 departments and centers, it stands as Nigeria's largest postgraduate school. Flagship programs include an innovative MBA and a dual LLM program in collaboration with the University of Dundee.

“Our MBA School, emerging from the Faculty of Management Sciences, was the first south of the Sahara. Our dual LLM program, which includes semesters in both Nigeria and Dundee, is the first of its kind in West Africa,” Prof. Osinubi explained.

UNILAG emphasizes the importance of research and innovation for national development. With the highest number of PhD graduations in Nigeria, the university supports its postgraduate community through scholarships, quality supervision, and access to research grants.

“We aim to produce at least 1,000 PhD holders in the next two years. Our structured and rigorous process ensures that our graduates are of exceptional quality,” said Prof. Osinubi.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of UNILAG’s strategy. The university encourages interdisciplinary research, recognizing that complex problems require diverse expertise. The proposed transformation of the Postgraduate School into a College aims to facilitate even greater collaboration.

“We plan to establish faculties under the College of Postgraduate Studies to promote multi-disciplinary research. Our model involves co-teaching and co-supervising with industry experts, ensuring our graduates are employable and solution-oriented,” Prof. Osinubi noted.
