The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to revolutionize its industrial training program following a landmark breakfast meeting between the institution and key industry leaders on October 15, 2024. Organized by the Central Industrial Liaison and Placement Unit (CILPU), the event, themed "Future Agenda Meet Industry Partnership," aimed to strengthen ties between academia and industry, aligning student training with evolving job market demands.
Professor Johnson Olumuyiwa Agunsoye, Director of CILPU, highlighted the university's commitment to entrepreneurship and student development, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to enhance the industrial placement experience. The event featured representatives from prominent companies such as Unilever Nigeria, DSTV, and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, among others.
Discussions explored the N-A-B-C framework (Need, Approach, Benefit, Commitment) for internships, stressing the importance of innovation in internship management. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele V. Atsenuwa, encouraged industry leaders to engage UNILAG in research partnerships to solve real-world industrial challenges.
The meeting concluded with networking sessions and tours of the university’s tech hubs, setting the stage for a promising future of industry-academia collaboration.
