The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Security Unit has moved to strengthen ties with the Lagos State Taskforce as part of efforts to boost security and enhance the environment around the institution.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Security Unit, led by Coordinator Mr. D. M. Omotoso, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Taskforce headquarters in Oshodi. The meeting aimed to strengthen security and improve the environment around the university.

In a bid to strengthen security and improve the environment around the University of Lagos, Coordinator of the Security Unit, Mr. D. M. Omotoso, led his team on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Taskforce headquarters in Oshodi.

During the visit, Mr. Omotoso conveyed the goodwill of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, OON, FAS, and the university management to CSP Akerele. He explained that the engagement was aimed at fostering closer collaboration with the Taskforce to address pressing issues around the university’s main gate, including traffic congestion, environmental sanitation, and the activities of illegal traders, hawkers, and hoodlums that have increasingly distorted the aesthetics and safety of the area.

In response, CSP Akerele reaffirmed the Taskforce’s readiness to support the University of Lagos in its efforts to maintain a safe and orderly environment. He pledged full cooperation with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision and directed the establishment of a dedicated front desk at the Taskforce office to handle cases referred by the UNILAG Security Unit. Such cases, he noted, would be processed promptly through the Taskforce’s six mobile courts.

With this renewed collaboration, the University Security Unit, backed by the Vice-Chancellor and management, is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that the University of Lagos remains a safe, secure, and conducive environment for students, staff, visitors, and the wider community.
