Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has emphasized the need for Nigerian youths to adopt a high sense of responsibility, strong values, and character. She warned against "toxic generosity and entitlement mentality," which can hinder personal growth and effective functioning in society.
Speaking at a dinner for outgoing UNILAG student-leaders, Prof. Ogunsola commended their good character, cooperation with the university management, and quality leadership. She expressed concern over the prevalence of dependency, entitlement mentality, and moral bankruptcy among youths, urging them to be nipped in the bud to avoid a disastrous future.
Prof. Ogunsola shared her own university experiences, highlighting the importance of responsibility, values, and strength of character. She challenged the outgoing student-leaders to view their time at UNILAG as preparation for the real world, approaching the next phase of their lives with diligence, good courage, and self-worth. She also reiterated the university's commitment to fostering stronger student interaction and grooming them into a "fit-for-purpose workforce" for national and global development.
