UNILAG welcomes the African Freethought Music and Art Festival Organisers Ahead of Event on Witchcraft and Ritual Abuse
On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, welcomed the organisers of the African Freethought Music and Art Festival ahead of the event scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Afe Babalola Hall, UNILAG.
On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, welcomed the organisers of the African Freethought Music and Art Festival ahead of the event scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Afe Babalola Hall, UNILAG. The festival, themed "Unchained Melodies/Art & African Awakening," seeks to use music and art as platforms to raise awareness and campaign against abuses linked to witchcraft beliefs and ritual attacks in Nigeria.
The delegation, led by Dr. Leo Igwe, founder of the Nigerian Humanist Movement, included prominent figures such as Mandisa Lateefah Thomas, President of Black Nonbelievers Inc.; Dan Barker, Co-President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation; Dooyum Dominic Ingye, Director of Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW); and George Mbuagbaw of the Humanists Association of Nigeria.
In a related visit, the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor also received a team from Capital Management Limited, which included Principal and Chief Operating Officer Nieros Oyegun Soerensen, Tamilore Asikhia, and representatives from Tiwani Contemporary and Uber. Tamilore Asikhia, a 2017 UNILAG alumnus and best graduating student from the Department of Economics, expressed interest in exploring collaborative opportunities with the university.
Prof. Ogunsola, accompanied by Deputy Vice-Chancellors Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa and Prof. Lucian Chukwu, warmly welcomed both groups, highlighting UNILAG's ongoing commitment to fostering partnerships that align with its vision for social impact and academic excellence. https://unilag.edu.ng/?p=43157
