UNILORIN Alumna Wins Prestigious Microbiology Award for Excellence at USA

Iyiola Oladunjoye, an alumna of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has been honored with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Award for Young Ambassador Excellence at the ASM Young Ambassadors Retreat in Atlanta, USA.

Iyiola shared the information on social media where he wrote, "It was an honor to have received the inaugural American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Award for Young Ambassador Excellence, in Atlanta, United States,"

During the conference, Iyiola presented posters, made several scientific presentations, and participated in a panel discussion during the Early Career Microbiologists' Day, organized by the ASM Young Leaders Circle (YLC). "The conference kicked off with the ASM Young Ambassadors' Retreat, where I spoke about my efforts in advancing Microbial Sciences and Microbiology Education in Nigeria. Early Career Microbiologists' Day followed, where I joined a panel discussion and emphasized the importance of leveraging networking and collaboration to advance our careers as early-career scientists," He e explained.

Iyiola's research, conducted at Dr. Rahmat Abdulraheem Zakariyah's lab at the Department of Microbiology, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, was showcased through poster presentations, and he also delivered talks on various topics in microbiology, moderated a session, and received valuable feedback from the scientific community.

Iyiola explained that the highlight of the conference was when he was awarded  the Young Ambassador Excellence Award by the ASM President and the ASM CEO. "This recognition celebrates my achievements in advancing microbial sciences and supporting early-career scientists as the Young Ambassador to Nigeria,"  He concluded. 

Reflecting on his achievement, Iyiola expressed her gratitude to those who have supported his journey. "I'm super proud of my growth over the past years, and I appreciate everyone who contributed to this," He added.
