UNILORIN Expels Postgraduate Student Over Alleged Sexual Assault
In a letter from the University’s Student Affairs Unit, dated January 3, 2024, and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mr. Moses Opaleke, Mr. Balogun, also known as Plato, was notified of his expulsion. The letter referenced a report on social media that detailed sexual molestation accusations against Balogun.
The University of Ilorin has taken decisive action by expelling Mr. Mathew Adeboye Balogun, a Master’s student in the Department of Councillor Education, Faculty of Education. The expulsion comes in the wake of a guilty finding regarding allegations of sexual molestation against vulnerable students and admission seekers.

Despite being invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, Balogun failed to attend. However, at the subsequent hearing on October 19, 2023, he admitted to the allegations of misconduct. The charges included taking unlawful advantage of vulnerable students and admission seekers by sexually molesting them under the pretense of influencing their results or offering admissions, contravening the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.
On October 25, 2023, Balogun received his letter of expulsion, marking the conclusion of his association with the university. The incident underscores the institution's commitment to addressing cases of misconduct and ensuring a safe and conducive environment for all students.
