The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) was abuzz with excitement and admiration as it successfully hosted a valedictory lecture and the presentation of a special publication honoring Professor Kolade Luke Ayorinde, a luminary in the field of animal science and a trailblazer in guinea fowl breeding in Nigeria.

The event celebrated Professor Ayorinde's extraordinary career, which spans over 37 years, marked by significant contributions to animal breeding and genetics. His journey with the University of Ilorin began in 1987 when he joined the Department of Animal Production in the Faculty of Agriculture as a Lecturer II. His remarkable ascent through the academic ranks saw him become a full Professor by October 1995 at the age of 41.

Professor Ayorinde has been a source of inspiration for countless students, having lectured at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His dedication as an academic mentor is evident from the 12 former students who now hold professorial positions in various universities, a testament to his impact on the academic community.

Throughout his career, Professor Ayorinde has served in various prestigious roles, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) at the University of Ilorin, Vice-Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, and the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, Kwara State. His leadership and contributions have been widely recognized, earning him Fellowships with the Nigerian Society of Animal Production (FNSAP) and the Corporate Administration Institute of Nigeria (FCAIN).

The event not only celebrated Professor Ayorinde's academic and professional achievements but also showcased a special publication dedicated to his life and work. The publication highlights his contributions to animal science and his pivotal role in shaping the field of guinea fowl breeding in Nigeria.
