UNILORIN NASU and SSANU to Fully Comply with 7-Day Warning Strike, Union Leaders Affirm

Comrade Falowo explained that the warning strike aims to compel the Federal government to address various outstanding demands, including the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement, reconstitution of governing councils, payment of withheld salaries for four months, release of earned allowances, and improved funding of public universities.

UNILORIN NASU and SSANU to Fully Comply with 7-Day Warning Strike, Union Leaders Affirm

Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Ilorin have pledged full compliance with the 7-day warning strike declared by their national bodies, commencing today, Monday.

In separate conversations with in Ilorin on Sunday, Comrades Ibrahim Zubar and Falowo Olushola Naheem, Chairmen of NASU and SSANU respectively, emphasized the unions' commitment to the strike action.

Comrade Falowo explained that the warning strike aims to compel the Federal government to address various outstanding demands, including the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement, reconstitution of governing councils, payment of withheld salaries for four months, release of earned allowances, and improved funding of public universities.

He highlighted the issue of non-payment of four months' withheld salaries as a key trigger for the strike, pointing out the disparity between the treatment of their sister union, ASUU, which received payment for four out of eight months of withheld salaries.

Echoing similar sentiments, Comrade Ibrahim affirmed total compliance with the strike among NASU members. He stressed that no member is expected to be on duty throughout the duration of the 7-day warning strike.

The national bodies of NASU and SSANU declared the warning strike following the expiration of the ultimatum given to the federal government.
