UNILORIN VC Commissions USS's Basic Technology Workshop for the Unilorin Secondary School

At the commissioning of the project situated in the school premises at the Mini Campus, Adewole area of Ilorin, penultimate Monday (November 13, 2023), Prof. Egbewole applauded the school management, saying that such a project would provide students with hands-on experience in the use of basic tools and technology.

The Vice Chancellor said that with the Basic Technology Workshop, students of Unilorin Secondary School are expected to learn to analyse problems, find creative solutions, and, most importantly, have practical knowledge of things learned in the classroom.

In a chat with UNILORIN BULLETIN after the commissioning, the Head of the Technical Department at the Unilorin Secondary School (USS), Mr. Michael Olufemi Awoniyi, said the newly commissioned Basic Technical Workshop contains everything concerning basic technology in terms of woodwork, technical drawing, metalwork, mechanical aspects, and electrical electronics.

He also highlighted the workshop's potential to benefit students by introducing them to technology at an early stage, contributing to the nation's developmental goals. Mr Awoniyi explained, "In a developing nation like Nigeria, it is crucial to foster technical development from a young age. This workshop will enable us to introduce the younger generation to essential technical skills, laying the foundation for future technological advancements."

Also speaking with UNILORIN BULLETIN, the Head Boy of the School, Master Musa Abdulazeez, appreciated the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Egbewole; the Board Chairman of the School, who doubles as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali; the School Principal, Alhaji Tajudeen Durojaiye; and other staff members who support the completion of the project.
