UNILORIN Vice Chancellor welcomes UMC’s offer of support

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has welcomed the offer of support made to his administration by the University of Ilorin Muslim Community (UMC).

 Prof. Egbewole stated this penultimate Friday (December 29, 2023) while receiving the new leadership of the UMC, which paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

 The Vice Chancellor commended the UMC’s new Chairman, Prof Mudathir Olalere Yusuf, who led the new executive members of the UMC, which also included the Chief Imam of the Community, Prof Nasir Abdusalam, for his outlined goals.

Prof. Egbewole noted that leaders of faith-based groups on campus appear to only mark time but the plans of the UMC as outlined by Prof. Yusuf is commendable and welcomed.

While commenting on the plan of his guests to give scholarship on a regular basis to needy students, the Vice Chancellor noted that there are examples from some sister universities and advised that an improved version of those examples would serve the purpose of the community well.

Prof Egbewole, however, noted that the UMC has to look inwards in the direction of its members to meet all its financial obligations as he promised that he will support the community within the limits of the rules.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the UMC, Prof. Yusuf, explained that his leadership at the UMC is committed to the mission and vision of the Egbewole-led administration so that the administration can take the University to the greatest possible height.

He also disclosed that the UMC intends to care for all its members, irrespective of status and classification, by identifying their challenges and helping them overcome such.

Prof. Yusuf assured that the community will offer orientation to new staff so as to instil the spirit of honesty, discipline and decency of Islam in them.

He also noted that the community would also appreciate and celebrate some of its former members who retired and current members who were recently elevated in their careers.
