UNIMAID Vice-Chancellor Leads Onion Harvest, Unveils "Smart Agriculture" Roadmap

In a practical demonstration of leadership, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, joined students and faculty at the University’s Teaching and Research Farm for a symbolic onion harvest.

Accompanied by his Principal Officers and the Dean of Agriculture, Professor Abubakar Usman, the Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to outline an ambitious vision for the institution’s agricultural future.

Professor Mele announced a strategic move toward "Smart Agriculture," pledging that the university will transition from traditional methods to high-tech greenhouse farming and automated smart irrigation systems.

“It is not enough to learn traditional agriculture. We are training the next generation of smart farmers,” Professor Mele remarked, emphasizing the need to bridge the gap between classroom theory and modern technological application.
