TETFund Commences Solar Power Project Installation at NWUK Main Campus

Northwest University Kano, NWUK, has recorded another significant milestone in its drive to improve power supply and strengthen campus infrastructure, as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, commenced the formal taking-over and handing-over process for the installation of the Solarization Project at the University’s Main Campus.  

The exercise, which took place at the Main Campus, was led by the Director of Physical Infrastructure, TETFund, Architect Yusuf Muhammad Ashiru, who headed a TETFund delegation to the University.  

The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero, in her office. She was joined by Principal Officers and other members of the University Management.

Welcoming the team, Prof. Bayero expressed appreciation to TETFund for its continued support to the University. She noted that reliable electricity remains one of the institution’s most pressing needs and forms a key component of her 14-point agenda.  

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the growing demand for stable electricity made it imperative for Management to seek sustainable solutions through TETFund’s intervention. She described the solarization project as a landmark development that has generated excitement across the University community, and said its commencement represents a major step toward addressing power challenges and achieving sustainable energy supply on campus.  

Prof. Bayero further stressed the need for close collaboration during implementation. She urged that staff of the University’s Physical Planning Department and other relevant units be actively involved to ensure effective execution and long-term sustainability.

The Director of Physical Planning, NWUK, Engr. Ramatu Aminu Ahmad, sought clarification on the scope and implementation strategy of the project.  

Responding, Architect Ashiru assured the University Management that relevant staff of the institution would be involved where necessary during project execution. He disclosed that NWUK is among the first batch of twelve beneficiary institutions selected for the solarization programme.

He explained that TETFund had commenced the official taking-over and handing-over exercise for all twelve projects this week, with the NWUK team being the first to arrive. This, he said, formally signals the commencement of installation at the University.  

Following the meeting, TETFund officials, representatives of the contracting firm, and University officials proceeded to the project site at the Main Campus for inspection and other technical activities preparatory to installation works.  

The solarization initiative is expected to significantly enhance electricity supply at the Main Campus, improve teaching, learning, research, and administration, while reducing dependence on conventional power sources and supporting a more sustainable campus environment.
