The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that the institution has increased its tuition fees.
Prof. Adejuyigbe, while speaking in Akure on Monday, described the reports as false and mischievous, emphasizing that the university has not implemented any general fee increment.
“There are a lot of incorrect narratives in some sections of the media on tuition at UNIMED,” she stated. “The incorrect depiction of our programme fees by certain fifth columnists is an attempt to discredit a rapidly growing institution.”
Clarifying further, the Vice-Chancellor explained that no across-the-board increase was made. She noted that only minimal adjustments were made to the fees of new students, aimed at maintaining the university’s standard of education amid current economic challenges.
“Let me set the records straight, UNIMED did not increase tuition across all levels as being peddled. We only adjusted the fees for new entrants to ensure we can continue to provide quality education despite prevailing economic realities,” she said.
Prof. Adejuyigbe added that the university operates with transparency and accountability, maintaining that all tuition details are publicly available on the official university website.
“Our fees remain competitive and are highly subsidized by the Ondo State Government,” she stressed. “Anyone can verify the approved fee structure directly from the university’s website.”
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed UNIMED’s commitment to affordability and excellence, urging the public to disregard misleading information intended to misrepresent the institution’s policies.
