Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for admission into the PGD and MSc degree programmes in Counselling Psychology in the Counselling and Human Development Centre (CHDEC) of the University of Port Harcourt for 2023/2024 academic session, Myschoolnews report.
INTRODUCTION
The Counselling and Human Development Centre (CHDEC) was established on 30th November, 2021 to put the University of Port Harcourt at par with its contemporaries meeting the criteria for a Counselling Centre as stipulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The PGD and M.Sc. programmes in Counselling Psychology are approved by the Senate of the University.
OBJECTIVES
The Centre serves as an academic, career and mental health development hub dedicated to help graduate students explore opportunities and acquire skills that would enable them make impacts successfully in various areas of specialization, contrary to the usual general knowledge, after graduation. Our main aim is to furnish graduate students with the requisite practical skills and professional expertise, in specific areas, which translates into the needed competence and skills to work and remain relevant in the ever dynamic Counselling field.

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counselling Psychology
Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in specialized areas, namely:
School Counselling
Marital, Couple and Family (Relationship)Counselling
Child and Adolescent Counselling
Addiction and Rehabilitation Counselling
Clinical and Mental Health Counselling
Gerontological and Grief Counselling
Social Work and Rehabilitation Counselling
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University with a minimum of Third Class Honours or Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Upper Credit in Social Science and Education or any other related field would be considered for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)
Admission to the Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology is open to all candidates who hold a B.Sc./B.Ed in Social Sciences, Education and other related disciplines with at least second class lower division from a recognized University or Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Social Work, Management, Social Sciences, and Education (PGDE).
MODE OF STUDY AND PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme offers a flexible modular hybrid onsite and real-time video conferencing that offers students excellent choices of time of study.
The full time programme is for a minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months while Part time is for a minimum of 18 calendar months and a maximum of 36 calendar months, during which the student is expected to take the complete modules and carry out an individual research project.

Application Forms can be obtained from CHDEC office (Ground Floor, Central Instrument Laboratory Building, near Procurement Office, Adjacent Uniport Bottling Company), Abuja Campus on submission of a teller of a non-refundable application fee of Twenty-five Thousand Naira, payable to the CHDEC account(1100256678), U & C Microfinance Bank Ltd, University of Port Harcourt.
