The University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, has formally admitted 5,900 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a 50 percent increase in student intake compared to the previous session.

The University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, has formally admitted 5,900 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a 50 percent increase in student intake compared to the previous session.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Stella Chiemeke disclosed that 13,559 candidates applied for admission, out of which the 5,900 qualified and were matriculated. She commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering support in policy direction, advocacy before regulatory bodies, and facilitation of institutional growth, which has enabled massive accreditation of several programmes at the University.

Professor Chiemeke also extended gratitude to Hon. Charles Emetulu, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, and Prof. Tonukari Nyerhovwo, Commissioner for Higher Education, for their significant support.

Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized excellence in teaching and research as a core principle and urged students to pursue knowledge diligently. She stressed the importance of integrity, warning against examination malpractice, plagiarism, dishonesty, cultism, and violence. Professor Chiemeke assured parents and guardians of the University’s commitment to providing a conducive academic environment, robust student welfare services, and moral guidance for their wards.

During the matriculation lecture, Rev. Fr. Mario David Dibie encouraged the students, described as “Eagles,” to maintain focus and vision. He highlighted key principles for academic success, including hunger for excellence, time management, choosing valuable associations, avoiding destructive influences, and building knowledge on solid foundations. He also stressed the importance of daily reliance on the word of God.

The ceremony included the administration of the Matriculation Oath, symbolic signing of the matriculation register, and a cultural presentation.

Dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Charles Emetulu, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, member of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Bridget Odobor, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, principal officers of UNIDEL, staff of Zenith Bank, Agbor, and several royal fathers. Other participants were Deans of Faculties, Directors of Academic Programmes, Heads of Departments, and Senior Deputy Registrars.
