According to the advisory, common early symptoms of Lassa fever include fever, headache, sore throat, muscle aches, and general weakness. In severe cases, patients may experience bleeding, organ failure, and, in some instances, death.

The transmission of Lassa fever primarily occurs through contact with the urine or feces of infected rats, as well as direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals. To mitigate the risk of transmission, the Medical Centre has recommended several precautionary measures:

- Personal Hygiene: Regular handwashing with soap and water is advised, with the use of hand sanitizers recommended if soap is unavailable.

- Avoiding Contact: Minimizing contact with rodents and their excretions is essential to prevent transmission.

- Protective Gear: When caring for the sick, the use of protective equipment such as gloves and masks is encouraged.

The advisory also outlines precautionary measures specific to the university community, including the distribution of information and educational materials across campus to raise awareness. Additionally, enhanced cleaning and sanitization measures will be implemented in common areas.

All members of the UNILAG community are urged to adhere strictly to these precautions to prevent the spread of Lassa fever and ensure the well-being of the community.
