University of Lagos Hosts Study Tour Delegation from James Hope University
A delegation from James Hope University, Lagos, led by its Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Paul Vita, visited the University of Lagos on Thursday, February 29, 2024, as part of a study tour aimed at understudying the operations of the renowned institution.
Accompanying Dr. Vita were Professor Olu Akinkugbe, a renowned Economist and Consultant, and Bede Uzoma Achugamonu, the Registrar of James Hope University. They were warmly received by Professor Bola Oboh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) of UNILAG, along with Mrs. Olakunle Makinde, the Acting Registrar, and Professor Mathew Olusoji Ilori, the Director of Academic Planning.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Vita expressed the delegation's purpose, stating that they were at the University of Lagos in compliance with the directive from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to gain insights into the institution's best practices. He commended UNILAG's commitment to research, innovation, and community engagement, highlighting its reputation as a beacon of higher education in Nigeria and beyond.
Professor Akinkugbe, the founding Dean of James Hope University School of Business, elaborated on the objectives of the visit, emphasizing the desire to learn from UNILAG's experiences in curriculum development, student support services, research initiatives, and industry partnerships. He affirmed the institution's commitment to enhancing academic programs and administrative processes through knowledge exchange with well-established institutions like the University of Lagos.
During their visit, the delegation engaged in various activities, including meetings with faculty members, administrators, and students of the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS). They also toured campus facilities, such as lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, and administrative offices, to gain firsthand insights into UNILAG's operational procedures.
In her remarks, Professor Oboh underscored the significance of the study tour and assured the delegation of UNILAG's readiness to facilitate a thorough evaluation of James Hope University's programs to meet the required standards set by the NUC.
The interaction between the two institutions signifies a commitment to fostering collaboration and continuous improvement in the Nigerian education sector, ultimately benefiting students and academic communities alike.
