UNILAG Students Clinch Victory at CFA Institute National Finance Challenge, Earn Spot at African Stage
Students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have once again demonstrated their prowess in finance and investment research by emerging as winners of the CFA Institute Research Challenge for the fifth consecutive year. The 2023/2024 CFA Institute Research Challenge, held at the Civic Centre, Lagos, saw Team UNILAG clinch the coveted first place on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

The remarkable achievement of Team UNILAG not only highlights their dedication and consistency but also underscores UNILAG's prominence in investment and finance research within Nigeria. The victory sets UNILAG apart as a beacon of excellence in the field and underscores the university's commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation.
Comprising students from various departments such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Mass Communication, Team UNILAG showcased exceptional talent and expertise throughout the competition. The team members include Tomiwa Akingbade, Pelumi Erota, Aishat Adigun, Francis Ogundokun, Peace Nnachi, and Pamela Okoye.

The students' success is attributed in part to the guidance and mentorship provided by Dr. Peter N. Amah, the Ag. Director of UNILAG Simulation and Training Centre and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences. Dr. Amah's leadership has played a pivotal role in nurturing UNILAG students' skills and capabilities in finance and investment research.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a rigorous academic competition that tests participants' proficiency in investment analysis and equity research. This year's challenge witnessed the participation of 24 universities in Nigeria, with teams engaging in extensive research over a period of five months before presenting their findings and investment recommendations to a panel of industry professionals.
UNILAG's outstanding performance secured its position as Nigeria's representative in the upcoming Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Sub-Regional Competition scheduled for March 2024. The university's success further solidifies its reputation as a leading institution in finance and investment education and research.
In addition to UNILAG, other notable participants in the competition included the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Pan African University, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), University of Ilorin, and Covenant University.
The CFA Society Nigeria, a member society of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, aims to promote excellence in investment practice in Nigeria and foster professional development among its members. With a community of approximately 190,000 professionals in the investment management industry, the CFA Institute provides a platform for networking and knowledge exchange.
