The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has continued its impressive run at the 27th Nigerian University Games (NUGA) currently taking place in Jos, Plateau State, with outstanding performances across multiple sporting categories.

In the male handball event, UNIMAID secured a hard-fought 16–15 victory over Justum University in a thrilling contest that kept spectators on edge until the final whistle.

The university’s Judo team also made its mark as Promise Ojikpe clinched Gold in the –63 kg category, while Hauwa Ishaku earned Bronze in the +78 kg heavyweight division.

In basketball, the male team advanced to the quarterfinals following a series of dominant displays in the preliminary rounds.

The tennis team maintained the winning momentum, defeating Gombe State University in the men’s doubles to qualify for the quarterfinals scheduled for today. In the men’s singles, UNIMAID’s Rubi Toba Kefas triumphed over Caleb Kayo of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, booking a place in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Blessing Onah recorded a mixed outing—defeating a Gombe State University representative before losing to Priye Maxwell of the University of Port Harcourt.

Adding to the medal tally, the Taekwondo and Judo teams brought home additional honors. The female Poomsae team won Bronze, while the university secured Gold in the 62 kg female category and Bronze in the +87 kg male division.

Overall, the University of Maiduguri continues to display exceptional performance, discipline, and team spirit, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian university sports.
