University of Maiduguri Suspends Foreign Component of TETFund Scholarship for Academic Staff
The decision, which will take effect from 1st January 2025, comes in response to the high costs associated with foreign training and the rising rate of abscondment by scholars.
The University of Maiduguri has announced the suspension of the foreign component of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Scholarship for Academic Staff (TSAS) following a directive from TETFund dated 25th November, 2024. The decision, which will take effect from 1st January 2025, comes in response to the high costs associated with foreign training and the rising rate of abscondment by scholars.
The university confirmed that the local component of the TSAS will continue as usual. Academic staff members who have already applied for the foreign scholarship component are advised to explore alternative funding opportunities.
The decision is aimed at ensuring that the scholarship scheme remains sustainable and effective for those pursuing academic advancement locally. Those who have enrolled in foreign institutions will be able to continue drawing on their sponsorship until the completion of their respective programs.
