Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Centre has commenced a sensitization outreach programme to mark the 2026 Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed globally on May 28, aimed at promoting menstrual health awareness and dignity among girls and women.

The outreach, themed “Together for a #PERIODFRIENDLYWORLD,” featured a live menstrual hygiene awareness broadcast on UNIZIK FM Radio, alongside educational sessions on menstrual health and the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students.
The programme specifically targeted undergraduates residing in Stella Okoli and Dora Akunyili female hostels within the university community, where participating students received sanitary pads as part of the initiative.
The outreach was coordinated by the Director of the UNIZIK Medical Centre, Dr Jane Nkolika Ezeonu, who led the health sensitization activities designed to improve awareness and support menstrual hygiene management among students.
The Medical Centre emphasized that menstrual health remains a critical component of public health, calling for sustained education, support systems, and collective action to eliminate stigma and misinformation surrounding menstruation.

The university noted that the initiative reflects its broader commitment to student wellbeing, health education, and community-focused medical outreach programmes.
