Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has issued a stern warning to cyber cafés in and around its campus for allegedly extorting prospective students by charging excessive fees during the Post-UTME registration process.

In a press release signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Njelita Louis O., the university management disclosed that several cyber cafés have been demanding as much as N5,000 from candidates instead of the official N2,000 registration fee stipulated by the institution.

“The University Management disassociates itself from such acts,” the statement read, emphasizing that the official advertisement clearly states that the Post-UTME registration fee is N2,000. The management noted that collecting ₦5,000 from unsuspecting students is not only exploitative but also contrary to the university’s policy.

Consequently, the university has directed operators of cyber cafés to immediately desist from imposing the illegal charges on prospective students. The management also urged parents, guardians, and candidates to refuse any payment beyond the approved N2,000.

The statement concluded with a strong appeal to the general public, warning against patronizing cafés or individuals attempting to exploit the registration process, and reiterated the university’s commitment to a transparent and fair admission exercise.
