In a recent turn of events, Dr. Blessing Chinweobo, a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), has threatened legal action against MyschoolnewsTV, an online news platform. The dispute stems from a publication made by Myschoolnews based on a Facebook post by Dr. Chinweobo.

Dr. Chinweobo’s original post on Facebook read as follows:

“In Mass Comm UNN, most classes are almost 400 in number. Yes, the number is large, but we are very organized and have zero tolerance for all forms of academic malpractices. Today is Monday, and our Mondays are usually beautifully blue. Our students, nko? Be the judge.”

A student, reacting to the lecturer’s post, highlighted students who appeared unprepared for an exam based on their expressions. The student’s comment read:

“So I decided to zoom in. That girl’s face, though.”

Dr. Chinweobo, in response to the student’s remark, asked:

“Wetin do their faces? They are on hot seats, na.”

The student replied:

“It’s not just about the hot seats. I guess it’s about empty sheets.”

On Thursday, 21 March 2024, Dr. Blessing Chinweobo, accompanied by armed security personnel, stormed the office of MyschoolnewsTV UNN Branch. Subsequently, a staff member from Myschoolnews was taken into custody. However, the staff was later released on bail after a call from Prof. S.I. Ofoefule, Director, SERVICOM Unit. Remarkably, Myschoolnews subsidiary's company (Fondstack Service Limited) customer care mobile phone remains illegally seized and in the possession of the UNN security department which has resulted into loss of Business deals.

Myschoolnews management also pleaded with the Security department at University of Nigeria Nuskka to release Fondstack.com Customer care mobile phone to enabe the company continue her services with Customers but the request was declined.

Dr. Chinweobo had previously called Myschoolnews, threatening legal action if the publication is not taken down. She emphasized that she disliked the headline attached to the picture and hinted that Myschoolnews has no right to use the pictures of students taking examination which was sourced from her social media page.

However, Dr. Chinweobo failed to acknowledge that taking pictures of students inside an examination hall is against UNN guidelines. Furthermore, she maintained that Myschoolnews is supposed to contact her before using the contents she shared on the public domain.
