The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has taken a significant stride in advancing its Neurosurgery Unit under the dynamic leadership of Professor Henry A. Ugboma, the esteemed Chief Medical Director.

In a notable move, the Hospital's management, spearheaded by Prof. Ugboma, facilitated the delivery of a set of critical neurosurgical equipment to the neurosurgery unit, marking a milestone in the institution's commitment to excellence. 

 

The delivery ceremony was orchestrated by Prof. Datonye Alasia, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, who conveyed the management's dedication to providing cutting-edge equipment essential for maintaining global best practices in training, research, and advanced patient care. The equipment, a testament to UPTH's pursuit of excellence, is poised to elevate the institution to the status of a renowned center for neurosurgery. 

 

Expressing elation and appreciation for this groundbreaking development, Prof. Eghurudjakpor Patrick, the Head of Neurosurgery, emphasized the significance of the achievement, noting that the anticipation for such advancements had spanned decades. This transformative initiative is poised to enhance neurosurgical operations significantly, with the capability to perform corrective surgical interventions within minutes, highlighting the technological prowess brought forth by the new equipment.

Dr. Uchenna Ajoku, in detailing the specifics of the received equipment, highlighted their critical role in neurosurgical procedures. The list includes a High-Speed Drill System/Craniectomy, Diathermy Unit, Multi-parameter Invasive Patient Monitor, and a Spine Instrument Set. Dr. Ajoku underscored that these are among the best available in public tertiary hospitals in the country, showcasing UPTH's commitment to providing state-of-the-art resources for patients 

This recent intervention in the neurosurgery division follows a pattern of substantial contributions by the management under Prof. Ugboma's guidance. Notably, there were previous procurement of Dialysis equipment for the Nephrology division in medicine and Analgesic equipment for Anesthesiology. This strategic approach underscores the holistic commitment of UPTH's leadership to elevate various medical divisions within the institution. 

 

In response, the Neurosurgical team expressed their dedication to ensuring the optimum utilization and meticulous maintenance of the newly acquired equipment. This commitment is not only a promise to the institution, but also to the diverse stakeholders who stand to benefit from the enhanced capabilities of the neurosurgery unit.
