VC declares open 3rd international conference organised by ABU Political Science Dept

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has declared open the 3rd International Conference organised by the Department of Political Science and International Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in collaboration with Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, Mambayya House, Bayero University, Kano. 

The conference, “Beyond Sustainable Elections: Interrogating the Challenges of Leadership and Governance in Nigeria”, will last four days.

Prof. Kabiru described the theme of the conference as timely, and that the issues to talk about affect a lot in the society.

He commended the Department for restoring the intellectual debates for which it was known since its establishment more than 50 years ago. 

In his remark, the Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. Samuel Egwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Benue State, appreciated the effort and commitment of the Department for making the conference a reality. 

Earlier in her address of welcome, the Head of the Department, Dr. Rahanatu Lawal, said that the conference was intended to bring back the culture of scholarship and academic discourse that the department was noted for.

Dr. Rahanatu expressed gratitude to the keynote speaker, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. Samuel Egwu; the University Management, and International Studies Alumni Association for their support in organizing the conference successfully. 

At the roundtable discussion, Dr. David Omeiza Moveh spoke on technology and the conduct of elections in Nigeria. 

The panelists are Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, Director Electoral Institute Abuja; Prof. Habu Mohammed, Director Mambayya House, BUK; Dr. Abubakar Saddique Mohammed, Director General (CEDDERT); Prof. Sam Egwu, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State; Prof. Aliyu Yahaya, Electoral Commissioner, Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KDSIEC); and Malam Shuaibu Umar Mohammed, Director Iya Aubakar Institute of ICT, ABU, Zaria.
