WAEC Denies Deploying Security Personnel to WASSCE Centers Warns Against Fake Letter Circulating
WAEC has dismissed a fake letter circulating online that claims security personnel will be deployed to examination centres for the ongoing 2026 WASSCE. The council described the document as fraudulent, noting that it did not originate from any WAEC department and contained a forged signature. WAEC urged stakeholders to ignore the misinformation and rely on official communications.
West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false a widely circulated letter claiming that security personnel would be deployed to examination centers nationwide for the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement issued on Friday, WAEC's Acting Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, described the letter as fraudulent and urged stakeholders to disregard its contents
According to the council, the fake document, dated May 27, 2026, with reference number L/SED/12/DIST/VOL. 4/460, was purportedly addressed to school proprietors and principals across the country.
The forged letter falsely claimed that WAEC had concluded plans to deploy personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to all examination centers beginning June 1, 2026.
"The attention of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has been drawn to a fraudulent letter making the rounds in the media space," the statement read.
WAEC further noted that the document carried a forged signature of the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration, Mr. S.D. Kum, in an attempt to make it appear authentic.

Adesina stressed that the council had not issued any directive regarding the deployment of security personnel to individual examination centres as stated in the fake letter.
"The management of the council states categorically that the said letter is fake, as it did not emanate from the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar (Test Administration) or any other department within WAEC Nigeria," she said.
She added that the council believes the document was created by fraudsters and mischief-makers seeking to cause unnecessary panic, disrupt the smooth conduct of the ongoing examination, and mislead school administrators, parents, and candidates.
WAEC therefore advised school authorities, supervisors, invigilators, parents, and members of the public to ignore the fraudulent communication and rely only on information released through the council's official channels.
The examination body also wished all registered candidates sitting for the 2026 WASSCE success in their examinations and encouraged them to remain focused on their academic preparations.
