Yobe State University, Damaturu, has matriculated over 2,200 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session during its 18th matriculation and orientation ceremony held at Geidam Hall B.

The event, which formally inducted new students into the university community, underscored the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and character development as core pillars of its training philosophy.

Addressing the matriculants, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir, reaffirmed the university’s dedication to maintaining a conducive learning environment. He urged the new students to remain focused on their studies, avoid negative influences, and uphold good conduct throughout their academic journey.

He emphasised that the university places equal importance on academic performance and character formation, noting that graduation is contingent not only on learning but also on acceptable behaviour.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Musa Isa, also charged the students to take full advantage of the institution’s academic resources and opportunities to achieve excellence. He encouraged discipline, commitment, and consistency as key drivers of success in higher education.

In their separate remarks, speakers at the ceremony congratulated the new students on their admission and urged them to remain dedicated to their academic responsibilities while avoiding distractions that could hinder their progress.

A breakdown of the matriculated students shows that 465 were admitted into the College of Medical Sciences, 53 into the Faculty of Agriculture, 74 into the Faculty of Arts, 121 into the Faculty of Education, 67 into the Faculty of Law, 935 into the Faculty of Science, and 525 into the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.

The ceremony was attended by members of the University Governing Council, the Registrar, Isa Audu Dallari, senior university officials, a representative of the Emir of Damaturu, as well as parents and other guests.
