Okubo, who was a sales representative for Exus Pharmaceutical Nigeria, a company owned by Chinese National, Mr. Zur-Yin, reportedly died in the custody of Ketu-Ejirin Police Division in Lagos State. He was arrested over an alleged shortage in his sales account.

The youth group, led by its National Coordinator, Comrade Fidelis Jones, alleges that Okubo was tortured and murdered on July 19, 2023, a day after his detention at the Ketu-Ejirin Police Division. The group claims that Okubo was prevented from seeing his family during his detention.

The group further alleges that instead of the police documenting the death and depositing Okubo’s body in the mortuary, it was Pharmacist Osakwe, the Manager of Exus Pharmaceutical Nigeria, who deposited the corpse. The group accuses the management of Exus Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited of refusing to formally inform Okubo’s family about the circumstances leading to his arrest, detention, and death.

The group has called on President Tinubu, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), MHRC, the Rivers State Government, and members of the National Assembly from the six states of the Niger Delta to assist in investigating the incident.

The group accuses the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, and the DPO of the Ketu-Ejirin Divisional headquarters, CSP Awosinu Monday, of conspiring with the management of Exus Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited to cover up the incident.
